Boss of the Plains

Cowboys in the late 19th-century American West often referred to their headgear simply as a hat or by the brand name of the first popular style, the "Boss of the Plains". While it was the first iconic cowboy Stetson hat, real cowboys in that era frequently wore other hats like bowlers (or derby hats), sombreros, or flat caps because they stayed on better in wind.
